NETWORKING

The concept of networking has been accepted largely both socially and economically as accruing benefit for those who practice them. Members in a network may have similar circumstances or situations that their coming together would enable them share and possibly have joint solution.

VTF Programme believes that especially working with a marginalized sector like TVET and also vulnerable groups like women who have taken the bold initiative to start their own businesses, they could only remain stronger and articulate their concerns if they are together.

Network on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NETTVET)

This is a network of TVET institutions that has been formed by the VTF Programme to assist TVET institutions to advocate better administration, infrastructure and other necessary inputs for good success. NETTVET understands that individually they are not able to solve the problem to do with image and low quality but when they are together they share experiences or what works well and how they can improve their own situations. NETTWET believes that every graduate TVET much be employed and for that matter the input and processes is very important. They have therefore accepted to promote the nationally adopted Competency Based Training (CBT) methodology in order to ensure the right knowledge, skills and attitudes are delivered to the youth for gainful employment. NETTVET formulates an action plan every year which is implemented in all eight zones, an Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held to reflect on the issues and situation of TVET. NETTVET identifies a capacity building issue that members are trained in and make them efficient and effective as administrators. Over the time since 2007 when it was established trainings in management training, conflict management, negotiation and advocacy skills, proposal writing, market survey, understanding the civil service code of ethics, Information Communication and Technology and Management and other relevant topics have been held.

NETTVET institutions have put up structures to ensure that trainees are supported throughout their schooling period through the establishment of Post Training Support Services (PTSS) counsellors have been identified who accompany the trainees. These instructors are also trained in Counselling and Guidance Skills, Entrepreneurship Skills and in the CBT methodologies.

The Network on Women Entrepreneurs (NETWET)

NETWET is an association of all beneficiaries of the VTF Enterprise Development project. This network is to keep the young entrepreneurs together and continuously provide interventions to improve upon their businesses and their lives. This heterogeneous group of dressmakers, fashion designers, caterers, hairdressers & beauticians, sprayers, welders, etc. was established in 2011 by the VTF Programme. NETWET believes that as individual members they are vulnerable but when they come together, they are stronger to articulate their concerns, share experiences and learn new trends in their trades. They are mentored and gradually become matured entrepreneurs. The linkages provided by VTF Programme are able to connect them to possible markets.

NETWET meets monthly where they initiate a number of activities to keep the association functioning.
